A Groomer's Journey

Hi there! I'm Laura Gaskin, proud owner of The Shaggy Dog Parlor in Spring, TX. I opened my shop in 2016 with a simple goal: to create a welcoming, safe place where pets could feel at home while getting the care they deserve. For me, grooming isn’t just about keeping pets looking good—it’s about making sure they feel comfortable, healthy, and loved.

My journey to becoming a groomer started while working at a doggy daycare years ago. I watched a young groomer transform each dog using bows, painted nails, and little finishing touches. I thought, “I want to do that!” I worked under veteran groomers at vet offices, boarding facilities, and high-end dog boutiques. I built my skills while taking mental notes on everything clients loved and valued in a groomer.

I recently took my love of dog grooming further by opening "The Shaggy Dog Grooming School" for aspiring groomers. Sharing my knowledge and experience with others who want to follow my path is very rewarding.

When you walk through the door, I want you to feel like you’re stepping into my home, where you and your pet feel welcome and at ease. This personal touch has made The Shaggy Dog Parlor a success. I am truly grateful for every pet and person we serve.

Grooming FAQs

Is grooming safe?
When done correctly and performed by professionals, grooming is not only safe, but it's important for your pet's health and well-being.

How often should I groom my dog?
It depends, based on the breed and coat type. The average is every 4-6 weeks but our professionals will help you determine the schedule that's best for your pet.

How often do nails need trimming?
For the health and comfort of your dog, we recommend trimming nails every 6 weeks.

Are vaccinations required?
At The Shaggy Dog Parlor, we only require vaccinations mandated by the state. However, we encourage pet owners to consult with their veterinarian and consider any additional vaccinations or health precautions that may benefit their pets. Your pet’s safety and well-being are our top priorities during their grooming experience with us!

How old does my puppy need to be for her first grooming?
It is good to familiarize your puppy with the grooming process as early as possible and after the first set of puppy shots, usually 12-16 weeks of age. This will help them learn that grooming is a safe and pleasant experience.
